Im doing a weight loss program where I'm busting my ass to drop the 100 pounds I gained when I wasn't able to do much after my surgery in 2007. Yeah, I was lazy afterward. I also quit smoking for a period of time and put on even more weight. Needless to say, I ballooned to 330 lbs. After 4 months of the diet adjustment and two hours a day at the gym five days a week, I'm down to 290. So, if you work out, when do you do it? When you wake up? Before work? After work? Before you go to bed? Also, any tips to help me shed the pounds would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried about hitting the plateau.

Change your routine to keep from hitting a plateau. Try cross fit. Or something similar to Insanity. I try to work out in the morning (only about 5-10 minutes of high intensity) to kick start my metabolism then before bed (to boost metabolism while sleeping and burn off the calories I consumed during the day). Also, no carbs after lunch. Good luck. Keep up the hard work!!

👆yep change your routines regularly to shock your body and keep it guessing. Eat small but often possibly 6 meals (2 can be shakes) to help speed up your metabolism. Good luck

Here's the big issue. I work the night shift. My metabolism is screwed because of it. I've learned to cut back my carbs, (i used to be a pastaholic)but I work out in the mornings after work. I also go for a 45 minute jog when I first wake up. I tend to eat a salad with salsa instead of dressing twice a day. I'm keeping my caloric intake between 1500 and 1800 daily, despite eating 5 times a day

Man, just keep up with it. That's the hardest part. If you have a lapse get back on the grind. Sure if your progress stalls for a bit switch up the workout but the main thing is to stick with it. The diet as well a the exercise. Good luck and hell of a job on the first 40. I'm just trying to trim about 8 lbs and its a bitch so hats off to u!!!

Another great energy consumer are your muscles :) put together a full body workout (doesn't need to take more than 45 minutes at a time) once or (preferably) twice a week to increase muscle mass... More muscles = higher energy consumtion :)
Combining weight lifting 1-2x/week with cardio 300 minutes/week (at least 60 min/day) is what we usually recommend those needing to reduce their body fat. -

I think it's awesome that u are working for this goal!
I personally jog/bike on a scenic trail (the ocean in my case). If you can find somewhere that looks beautiful and exercise there, it really takes your mind off the work you are doing and you dont notice the pain/tedious-ness/etc of the workout.
Also make sure you eat a very CLEAN diet. Meaning no more than 3 or 4 ingrediants. Chicken or beef w a soy/honey marinade and some plain rice for example. what you eat has such an impact.

Also a workout partner is great!

Keep it up! I need to start running... But really should help your health overall.

Any active sport will help break up regular working out. Raquett all, biking, hiking. My brother worked for the post office and walked 12 miles every day. He had to eat 6000 calories just to not lose weight!

Wrestling really gets you in shape and loseing a lot of weight

I spend roughly two hours average a day at the gym. 1 hour elliptical, treadmill, or stationary bike. Then 1 hour on a muscle group. And I do ab crunches daily. Funny thing is, it doesn't feel tedious or boring. I actually enjoy doing it.

That's awesome! Im a wrestler and had to stay at a constant weight for such a long time. It's definitely good that u do cardio and muscle building. If I were you I would also try doing squats as well to increase the muscle mass on your legs which will make you use up more calories and fat in other areas of your body while just doing your normal jog and elipticcals. But the most important thing is a healthy diet and lots of water in place of any sugary drinks. Also do NOT have a lot of SALT! That is one of the worst things you can have because it retains water in your body and will just overall make you feel horrible.(ik this is long) but good luck with reshapping your life cause it takes a lot of balls and determination to do what you are doing and others should look up to u! Good luck!💪👍👍👍👍👍💪

Do not consider it a "diet" but instead a "lifestyle change" because a diet is viewed as a temporary change. Also I would suggest adding swimming to your workouts if it is possible. It is a great workout and also is very easy on your joints. Set both short term and long term goals. Treat yourself to something nice when you reach a goal to help motivate you. Also, do not become discouraged if weight loss slows or stops for a while, just keep going!
