Anyone else have one? My son has retinoblastoma. Diagnosed at 13 months. Been tough but were getting through it. good thing we live in Canada and we don't have to worry about the medical bills. Post if you want to chat about your kids. Sometimes it's nice to get it out.

My aunt gave birth to a boy with anencephaly, because she refused to have it aborted, and it died within an hour. I've never seen a woman cry so much.

I know two young teens with Cystic Fibrosis...Most with this disease don't live past the age of 35.

My son has cerebral palsy and is deaf. He's now 12, was born 3 months premature.
His biggest problem at the moment is a stinking cold which he insists on telling me about every 30 seconds. -
My youngest was diagnosed with failure to thrive, a chiari type 1 malformation of her lower brain, and a cyst in one of her leg bones next to the hip joint. After reading the post here and meeting others at the hospital, I am thankful for the small problems that we have.

I have been blessed with 4 heathly daughters but I have seen my fair share of disabilities while doing clinical rotations in the neonatal ICU. I am humbled by the strength that some of these parents have because I would be unable to be so strong. There were a few cases in which I had to excuse myself from the room because it was too overwhelming for me. Parents and caregivers of children with disabilities, you have my respect in more ways than one, god bless you all and the little lives that you care for and support.

I like the lack of responses this is getting.

My best friend has spina bifida. Basically born with an underdeveloped spinal cord and a hole in the back. He's 28 and has been through roughly 1000 surgeries. Also, my youngest brother has a minor case of asbergers.

Up until the mid 70s the more severe cases of spina bifida were untreatable and most cases the child died.I was born with Spina bifida as well mine was hidden but about 100 different operations later and I am doing fine. I am 45 years old.

I have spina bifida occulta. My two lower vertebrae aren't fused. The older I get, the more back pain I've been getting. I'm avoiding any surgeries though. What was your experience with them?I was born with Spina bifida as well mine was hidden but about 100 different operations later and I am doing fine. I am 45 years old.

Coincidentally, I actually happen to have asperger's. Is he on the more stable end of the spectrum, or more on the autistic end?✂✂✂ Also, my youngest brother has a minor case of asbergers.

When I was born I caught a infant respiratory disease which got me an extended stay at the hospital and could've killed me. I developed alppergies and asthma as a result. It used to be bad but now I'm healthy and play sports year round without a problem. I still have to cough randomly though that I can't seem to get rid of.

Thankfully, none of my children have life threatening conditions... But all 3 have problems. My oldest has a PFO ;small hole in her heart that didn't close at birth) and hemophiliac migraines (they mimic a stroke). My middle child has severe dyslexia (going in to 6th grade and still reading at a 2nd grade level) and the valve on the right side of Her heart does not seal completely. My youngest had an ASD (heart defect - 5mm hole in the left ventrical) which had made his heart enlarged. He also had asthma and migraines.
A friend of mine had a son born with schizensephaly... Basically he had a seizure in uterine and his brain never developed. As an 8 year old, he was still like a 4 month old. -
