5-0 Radio Police Scanner

I like to listen to the scanner feed for my area while I play TW. Do any of you have the app? I frequent the "Sedgwick County Law Enforcement" feed.

Pretty sure it is illegal in Australia to listen in to police radios. They are pretty well encrypted anyway...
-
Oh, here it's perfectly fine. 😜
-
Hyena, it's not illegal. Police scanners are very common ... I know several people that have them. They're readily available in motor stores, and electronics stores such as Jaycar and Dick Smith.
Having a police transmitter is different. Those, you need a licence for. They're not easy to obtain either. A friend of mine (from my fire brigade - I'm CFA) has one in his private vehicle for fire fighting purposes. It's not tuned to police and abulance frequencies though, only brigade frequencies. -

It is illegal to listen in but they've changed to a new system where standard scanners can't listen in. I actually have an app that lets you listen to local call outs all across the state for police, ambos and fire brigade. But all the good stuff is on the new system :(Pretty sure it is illegal in Australia to listen in to police radios. They are pretty well encrypted anyway...

I don't know about the rest of Australia but it is only illegal in Queensland if you are using it to gain a benefit. The whole of Brisbane is now encrypted and can't be listened to but the rest of the state is readily able to be listened to.

Very convenient app to have if your trying to avoid a run in with the law.
-
Well what do you know, guess I don't know everything. Cheers for clearing that up fellas

Interesting. The 5-0 scanner just went nuts - police and fire brigades were suddenly busy. Unfortunately for me, I'm too far from my station tonight to turn out ...
We had a 5.2 magnitude earthquake here about an hour ago. Facebook went crazy 😏
True story. It's the first earthquake I've exer experienced, Aparrently there's meant to be another in the next half hour. My poor girlfriend almost shit herself, and I was outside shouting for more with a mate. lol. Poor girlfriend 😔

They are online in the us - just google a city name 'police scanner'. I listen a few times a year when there are large fires or other big events. Usually I get hooked and listen for a few days and then get bored of all the routine chatter on false alarms, stolen bikes and drunks yelling in the street.

A person I know has a police scanner app, and he uses it to listen to police radio in some town in backcountry Georgia.

App? I am still in the dark ages of pulling electrons flowing through the air down a metal rod then going through a tuner

It's pretty cool. I launch it when I hear the sirens going.
Sunday a bank a few blocks from me was on fire. Later I drove by to see if the firehoses washed the money into the street, but it was only a dumpster fire in the parking lot... Maybe next time 😞

Aftershocks weren't too bad. Honestly though, earthquakes are simply unheard of here, so it was all over the Internet within minutes of happening.♠Ƭϋʀғä♠ wrote:

No joke, there were photoshopped pics of shirts with 'I survived the Victorian earthquake 2012' on them posed on Facebook within 10 minutes of it happening. Phone service providers began to crash and ISP's were sluggish from the traffic lmao ... Australia might have dangerous animals but we don't have earthquakes! Lol.
