¿Morning or night run?
Forums › General Discussion › ¿Morning or night run?-
I'm training to join the cross country team at Cal Poly Pomona (I'm going to be a freshmen this fall), since this was my favorite thing about high school and its something I want to keep up for as long as possible.
I wanted to know when the right time to run is. I'm not a morning person, so I'm slower in the morning, but if I make sudden plans with friends later that day, I never ran at all. Morning runs are hotter and help me get acclimated to heat, but take away more energy; evening/night runs won't help me get used to heat as well but I have better endurance here, so a race in heat would kill me. What do you think the right time to run is, and why so?

Both!!!
Actually since u were in track I was thinking I could ask u for sOme pointers? -
Night runs are good for endurance, because when you can't see far, it tricks your mind into thinking you haven't gone ver far. Runs that would help you better withstand heat would be midday, somewhere from eleven to two.

Mental strength is crucial; you may feel like you can't do more & then realize how much more potential you have. Core and arm strength are also important, since these muscles are used and needed the most. Both!!!

Since I know you're in our area try the Etiwanda trail at 6 in the morning. It's a little bit harsh on the knees and ankles since it's so rocky, but it feels wonderful. Since you stated you're a slow runner in the morning a rocky terrain is perfect since you'll need to pace yourself. Weather's perfect around that time too.

Thanks but actually, I'm not slow anymore; I started my sophomore year, and now I can do a mile under 5:25 and I prefer to run on hillside.Since I know you're in our area try the Etiwanda trail at 6 in the morning. I'm working on soccer, so any advice here is appreciated.
As for the ?, morning sounds like a good option for you. You would get more used to the heat, and if you're slower in the morning, you can probably train yourself to get faster that way.
