After 3 years of having a desk job,
Forums › General Discussion › After 3 years of having a desk job,-
After working outdoors all my life, I've decided enough is enough and at the young age of 40, I'm going to join the volunteer fire dept. maybe I can shed some of this 100 pounds I've gained sitting behind this desk.
-
Screw that. My next job will have a thermostat involved!
-
Great job man! Determination is key!! Hope everything goes well!

Hope all goes well Papabear.

Don't do too much too soon. I was cdf/calFire back in day and I can tell you how many weekend heros ended up on our O2 or even coding out. Adrenalin and excess weight are Not your friend (and lots of volunteers use 'practice' night for beer night.). Go easy papa... At 47 and in reasonably good shape, I wouldn't thow on a turnout, msa and pick up a 2" today.
-
I hope you don't expect to lose weight just by being firefighter. I'm a paid FF and a lot of the guys I work with are overweight. There has to be a supplemental exersize program as well.
But best of luck, I hope you enjoy it!

Anything is better than just siting behind this desk all day. Freaking county won't let me go outside and even pull weeds or scrap off the scale. Insurance reasons thy say. ⬆ ditto. Please, for your own safety, start working out. Way to many stories every year of a brother dying on scene from heart attacks. It is hard, hot work. Very rewarding though. I'm confused. Are you leaving your job? I didn't think volunteer FFs got paid.

Lol. 2" hose. The thing that holds the wet stuff that you spray on the red stuff.
Hauling a fully changed line while wearing full gear and while being pumped up on massive flame and smoke will get your heart going for sure.
Good job stepping up - now do some cardio steps to prep (ha)
