Is product placement/ consumerism ok?

I'm going to give you guys 2 different scenarios, an tell me, do you think it's ok or unacceptable.
Scenario 1, in a tv show, it shows a piece of stride bubblegum, the characters in the t.v. Show do not mention anything about it but it's still there, is this ok?Scenario 2, in the t.v. Show they show a car, the characters yell, "get in the (insert car here)." and once they get in the car they talk about why the car is so awesome and all of its different features. So what are you guys' opinion?

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion, don't know why there would be.

Scenario 2 sounds like crap product placement. The best examples I've seen is when a brand let's itself take the butt of te jokes but in a good way. For instance, have you ever seen the Family Guy when Peter gets hooked on Red Bull? Genius!

All 'content' tv shows, movies, magazine articles, websites, etc. that are professionally produced have to generate income. If the consumers don't directly pay for the content, then they must indirectly pay (advertising.).
I make something you want, someone else pays me for you to get it, but they require you to you to be influenced by their message in hopes you pay them more than they paid me.
