How do I properly shop for a laptop?

  So I'm tired of my current one running so slow when I do anything and I have monies to buy a new one. I know that looking at specs is the best way to shop, but that's hard when you know nothing about the specs. So tw community, I humbly come here and ask you to hopefully provide me some insight on this. If you can, list specs for a decent laptop and\or provide examples so I may compare later on thanks to the new knowledge you have given me.

  Is it absolutely necessary that it be a laptop? Because you can build a desktop that is twice as good for half the price.

  If I were you, I'd check for a MicroCenter anywhere near you... Those computer guys are quite a bit more helpful than the BestBuy ones :P

  Look at the new vizio laptops (coming out in the next few weeks) don't know if they're any good yet but they look amazing and have great specs .. Though personally id never buy anything that's not a Mac I have a IBM laptop for work and a MacBook pro for home the MacBook is just in a different league then any windows laptop I've ever used and you could get a decent MacBook from a reseller for under 700 dollars

  Netbooks are quite slow if you dont get a good one. My pavilion dv6 with i7 core, 8gb ram, intel r hd graphics is fast and i play games on it such as Americas Army 3, Ghost Recon, and other games that require low specs.

  I have never had mine crash (except for the time i accidently took the battery out while using it) with my customizations mine cost 900$ (thats with 8gb RAM, upgraded video card, windows 7 64-bit, upgraded 9 cell battery as opposed to 6cell and a blu-ray player)
