Blood Pressure Way ⬆⬆⬆⬆!
Forums › General Discussion › Blood Pressure Way ⬆⬆⬆⬆!-
My daughter passed her drivers test and got her permit a few weeks ago. Today, I have her driving on the interstate for the first time.
Thankfully we are on eastbound I-94 between Bismarck and Jamestown, ND. Not too much traffic. Real danger of Bison strike though.
-
What car is she driving? Automatic or manual?
-
That's like driving on the salt flats.
-
An automatic. I wish I had a manual so she could learn to use a clutch. Alas, sports cars and jeeps went away when the kids came along. Now a roll around in a van.
Not a cool VW van though.
She's doing pretty good. She has a tendency to put the passenger side tires right on the white line. I told her that's one of the things the 5-0 look for to see if you've been drinking. Just a nervous chuckle from her for that one.
-
Oh no. I've been to salt flats. There is a little more terrain changes here than at the salt flats. Although one could still watch their dog run away for couple days.
I like this road more than I-80 or I-70. Those really bore me.

You need to play some calming music, like Ocean Winds or Celtic Bells. Better, get some of that new age stuff.👍

Made it to Jamestown. I'm taking over, she did good though.
-
Made Fargo. Stopped to rampage across the steppes with the khan. Pillaging Hu-hot for lunch. Then thunder across the plains to the Minneapolis suburbs.
-
Have forded the Red River. Back in the land of sky blue waters.
Turned the reigns over to my son. He's been driving for a couple years so I don't get as uptight as when my daughter drives.

Ah, speeding tickets. One good thing about the vast open plains is there aren't a lot of police around. At least not ones running traffic. Usually you have to really deserve it to get pulled over out here. And of course I have been pulled over several times, but the only time I've been ticketed was in the western suburbs of Minneapolis.
A highway patrolman once pulled me over in ND late at night. I was the only car on the road for miles and didn't realize I was going nearly 100 mph until he lit up his lights. Just got a verbal warning. I think he was just looking for someone to talk too. He probably would have pulled me over if I was going 75, which is the speed limit on the interstate.

Passing Rothsay, MN. There is a huge statue of a Prairie Chicken there.
Rothsay is also the site of the greatest football comeback I was ever involved in. When I was a sophomore, we went into half-time down 24 points. We ended up winning by 2. I played special teams and saw a lot of action on kick-offs and returns during that game.

Passing Fergus Falls, MN. I graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy a small private school here. I also met my wife here. Seems like ages ago. A lot of gray hairs and several stone ago for sure.
The stone are on me. The wife is as hot as ever. She has a few gray hairs, but I'm the cause of that.

Oh ya. Common prejorative used to describe Fergus.

Somebody ran over a black and white cat. Smells real bad!

Passing Alexandria, MN. No lighthouse here.
A local farmer here claims to have found a Viking runestone while working in his field. He claimed the stone is pre-Columbian.
I'm not sure if he still lives or not but the stone has been the subject of a lot of debate. I don't know for sure if it has been authenticated or found to be a forgery.
According to the theory, the Vikings found their way through the great lakes then across country and settled nearby. They eventually either died off, left, or were assimilated into the indigenous population.
Being of solid skandinavian stock it is an tempting theory. I just can't imagine why after traveling all this way they would decide to put down roots here. Why not continue on or return. It is a beautiful area but they passed many other places just as or even more striking than Alexandria.
Just saying! Don't destroy me if you have an unhealthy affinity for the area.

Just passed solid black burn mark on interstate. Hope no one was hurt.
-
Passing Freeport, MN. The town is cool as you approach it from the West it looks like you are going to drive right to the front doors of a church. You can see the spire for a couple miles right in front of you until the interstate turns to go around town.
Freeport also has a smiley face on its watertower. That's Minnesota nice.
-
At the Big Spunk rest area. I was hopeing to claim a cool capo here. I guess not though.
-
Passed through Buffalo, MN a bit ago. The chamber of commerce had erected a statue in honor of Funky Buffalo. There are other statues around town I am guessing are erected in honor of some distinguished members of his family.
We have arrived at our destination for the night. I will no longer bore the community with my little travel log.
-
I think it's fun being bored with your travel log😜

Having children get their drivers licence is good for the economy and insurance business. Bad for the environment. Increased risk of pregnancies.
-
Thanks Nate.
Eurs. You are not kidding about the insurance. Ours nearly doubled when our son got his license. -
Haha. I'd love to buy to a drink while your in town. I'm actually in downtown mpls right now at the le Meriden chambers. You know Minnesota nice to me equals a drink and breakfast at hells kitchen!
