☢Nuclear Energy☢ Good? Bad? Dangerous?
Forums › General Discussion › ☢Nuclear Energy☢ Good? Bad? Dangerous?-
I have been doing a little bit if research on Nuclear Energy, and I have seen mostly positive information about it. In my opinion I think Nuclear Power is essential to electrical generation in the US and extremely important for the econemy. And for many other countries as well. Here are my three top reasons:
• It's clean.
• Economical.
• And reliable.
The US is the largest producer of Nuclear energy and about 20% of the US's electrical output is from Nuclear Power. So it has already been working for us, efficiently and safely. I know that there are many negatives too, like the toxic wast that can last up to hundreds if not thousands of years. But with proper handling and storage, the waste won't threaten the environment. I can't fit all of my argument into this thread so I will leave it at this. What do you think about Nuclear Energy? -
I could talk for a long time about the production of energy, the sources, consumption, and especially about my ideas, and designs for other generation of power. However it would be far too time consuming and boring for the TW forums, but tomorrow, I will be glad to speak some of my mind about energy, but will probably be using a different account. I will answer all question people ask me- just inquire and receive a response as fast as I can, or as soon as I am able to view it.

Think about the 100s or even thousands of plants we have. Only 2 have had serious meltdowns.

After Japan the US has been implementing programs to strengthen reactors towards all types of natural disasters. But of course, there is always a huge risk when working with Nuclear Energy. But, with the continuously growing demand for cheap/clean/efficient energy, would the risk of expanding Nuclear energy be worth it? In my opinion, yes. With proper security procedures and emergency plans, I would support the nuclear power movement. We certainly don't want to end up like Japan...I acknowledge the accident was caused by a natural cause, but the potential risk is always high with a nuclear plant; While gas and coal-fired plants, on the other hand, do not. If a coal plant detonates, you have a few dead people and the electricity is off for a few days.

US Has a little over 100, and the world has over 400 all together. And you are right about that. Plus that was older technology. The newer reactors are much more safe, and the "Fast reactors" that are still in the making are suppose to be very safe. (Sill have to read on those)Think about the 100s or even thousands of plants we have. Only 2 have had serious meltdowns.
