Debate: photography film versus digital
Forums › General Discussion › Debate: photography film versus digital-
Sorry too much photography on the brain lately but thought I'd see how one would do on this forum.

I lean towards the digital camera the most...Unless ofcourse, it's a horribly cheap one. You can also save more money in the long run by using a digital camera. Good luck on the photography. 👍

Film is not dead. It just smells funny.
-
Digital, since it can be loaded onto a computer and sent cheaper and more efficently than film.
-
I get a film in my bathtub, just won't go away.

I'm not positive about the save money part. Film can be acquired as cheap as $1 a roll these days and developing has come way down as well. Just remember the old saying, you get what you pay for. If your paying a buck a roll, you can't be garunteed the quality of those memories you tried to capture. With digital, you can see it before you leave the area. Then decide if you want to retake that picture of old aunt Mildred napping under the tree with the pigeon nesting in her blue bee hive hairdo.Baron Von Fritz wrote:

I shoot digital but I still think film is of greater resolution and quality. No digital small format can beat 8x10 film as of yet

I shoot with a dslr but have been trying to find a good deal on a film slr on eBay. I think it could be fun to learn. From pros I have talked to film yields results that digital can't. On that note digital requires a lot of post processing in order to achieve what you can with film with less work. I think film requires a lot of patience and that's why people have gone to digital. Most people (myself included) aren't willing to wait for something they can have right now.

I like film because well the pics can't be edited much so you get what you see. But digital has alot of features that help with those problems that film just doesn't do for you. I'm neutral. I'll be lying if I said I liked one more than the other. Poloroids are faster to develope into an actual picture for an album or something where as digital is for ppl that like their pics to go straight to their computerDigital.

True. I simply like the digital cameras (If good quality) because you can delete and retake a picture if the first doesn't turn out the preferred way.I shoot digital but I still think film is of greater resolution and quality. No digital small format can beat 8x10 film as of yet

Yes. Digital is a compromise of quality for convenience

Digital takes much of the skill away, you can rattle off 100 shots and then delete 99 rubbish ones.
Not that I have any skill, 😢 -
B, I asked in the other post but, do you know anything about the Kodak EASYSHARE Z5120 Camera - 16 MP, 26x Optical Zoom, 3" LCD Screen, 26mm Wide Angle & Camera Case that woot.com has for $149?
-
I have a bunch of different formats, from minox to 4x5 plus digital and stereo. They each do different things. I don't think there is a debate, just different tools for different jobs.
-
I use a dslr - cannon rebel XTI with a tamron lens - and enjoy it because I like to take LOTS of pictures. And, with most of our relatives out of state is is much more cost effective that multiple copies and snail mail.

I don't pay much attention to Kodak but with their future unclear I'd go with another brand. I like the ability to take lots of photos and then discard the ones that don't cut it. Much more time and cost efficient IMO.

The best part about digital is the instant feedback. When learning about exposure and lighting techniques, instant feedback cuts the old film learning curve back by YEARS.
It's making more and better photographers.
