I personally love when people try to quote Thomas Jefferson. Back then socially liberal people were the ones who believed in small government. This make him a hero to about everybody.

I believe Obama was completely wrong in firing McChrystal. Lincolns reellection campaign slogan was "don't switch horses in te middle if a stream" or something like that. He was refereeing to electing him again because changing leaders during a war would be irrational. The same goes For McChrystal. Yes Obama is his boss and McChrystal shouldn't have said those things, but firing McChrystal will only hurt the war effort. He should have severely reprimanded the general but if you think about it changing generals in the middle of a war when that previous general was okay would hurt the war effort. So Obama was willing tomake the war more difficult just to assert his power and punish McChrystal. Even if Obama is the boss McChrytal wad at the point where he was "unfireable". If there was a business in which one worker kept the company going wouldn't the boss keep him even if that worker backtalked?

This is horseshit. The "previous general" was not "ok" - he's partly responsible for the sucky situation and he's open his mouth against civie leadership before including leaking troop requests to preasure the president during his deliberations. Replacing a mediocre general (mcchrystal) with the smartest brass we got (pataeus) isn't going to hurt - it's going to help. Mcchrystal can now retire, sell his book and lecture to various conservative groups about how he "stood up" to obama (regardless of his oath..) while patraeus fixes Afghanistan. Hell, we changed generals in Iraq 4 or 5 times (I think patraeus replaced casey as the last switch). Lincoln was civie-leadership, not a general.
