How do you insert the .img file on the SD card? I tried the suggested software but I don't understand how to run it.

No, you put it in a shell on ANY OS except windows.

A shell? Please give exact steps, I've put in the SD card, and have the folder with the .img file up on the screen.

No, a make it yourself computer type thing. You get a mother board and do something
