Virus expirey date?

Is it possible for a computer virus to go away after a certain amount of time?
I had a virus on my laptop, I hadn't gotten antivirus software yet, (stupid I know) and I got some viruses. I turned it off and left it for a month, and I just turned it on. It seems like the viruses are all gone. Anyone have any idea what happened?

I had a virus on my old desktop. Got a laptop the next day. Turned the desktop on like 3 months later. The desktop is fine. But it's so slow down. I just use it for storage now.

No, viruses do not simply "go away". Even if you turn your computer off for a long period of time, the virus goes into hibernation mode and will "wake up" soon after your computer is booted. My sources are the Internet, and I know a few people that work in I.T.

I would advise installing an anti-virus/malware of some sort and run a Norton scan on your computer regularly.

From my understanding, most computer viruses will just go away, similar to when you get the common cold. Your computer just needs time to recover. To speed things up, try inserting bucklys cold and flu medicine into the cd tray. It tastes awful, but it works.

Does this app look like tech support to you? Tell you what though, if you throw your computer out the window I'm pretty sure the virus won't survive the fall.

Virus's don't expire. Take it to a professional to have the virus removed or the hard drive wiped and os reinstalled

it is possible that a virus could be programmed to end but unlikely that any would. virus writers ultimate aim is disrupting your system. as other people have said thay can hibernate.

There are some "viruses" that are more considered time bombs. Or active on certain times, although I think those are rarely written anymore those were older viruses. Technically a programmer creating a virus could program it to stop or delete itself at a certain time...but I HIGHLY doubt they would program something like that. Most aim to destroy, steal, or something else negative.

A virus is a program like any other. Unless it is told to terminate, it remains active until it is removed. Wishful thinking is not enough. There are too many free AV progs for you to have this problem!

Fail: downloading anti virus software and it gives you a virus instead
