On my way in to work just a few minutes ago, I passed a cop sitting in the median of I-90. I looked down at my speedometer and saw I was going over 80 mph. Can you say shitting bricks? The cop whipped out onto the highway and started catching up to me. Now, I thought I was gonna get a nice speeding ticket, but the cop passed me and kept going. Needless to say, I'm still shaking. Kids, watch your speed on the highways.

Reminds me of when I first had my driving license. As I was turning into the freeway I saw a taxi coming up in the lane I wanted to merge into. So I hit the accelerator. As I round the bend there is a breakdown bay just before the merge. In that bay was a cop holding a pull over sign. I knew I was done for so hit the brakes, indicated and pulled over. After a pleasant yet uncomfortable conversation with the officer he asked if I knew how fast I was going. I advised I didn't. He advised I was 122kph in an 80kph zone. He then went on to say that because I pulled over in a safe and controlled manner. That I had not given him any lip but been open and honest with him, he would knock 20kph off the ticket. The effect of this was I got to keep my license and only paid 1 weeks salary instead of 2 as the fine.
Tip: if you've done wrong, don't give grief respect that they are doing a job and you've been caught. Accept responsibility for your actions.

One night I was driving on a road that I usually do. The speed limit was 35 mph, but I was doing 41, trying not to go crazy fast. I see this cop sitting in an outlet in the corner of my eye just as I pass him. He then immediately pulls out and turns on his lights. At this point, I'm freaking out. I start merging into the left turn lane to turn at a light to get to my house, and the cop starts merging too, but then he goes back into normal traffic (with his lights still on) and starts chasing someone else. Scared the crap outta me though.

Depends on how Much over the speed limit you are. What really hits you is the insurance being raised after the ticketHow much of a ticket would that have been?

Keep in mind, I'm 33 and was rushing to make it to work on time. When I posted the original message, I just pulled into the parking lot. The speed limit was 55 mph, and I was doing 80. I was fully at fault, and was preparing to pull over when he passed me.

I've noticed car insurance is a hot topic in the UK.
I think most people in the US don't really know how to answer that question. There are several levels and options, terms can be monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually, and car insurance may be bundled with multiple cars, house, life, etc... That on top of the fact that it's usually a payment plan with fees added in for that....
If you shop around, there are a variety of prices, and if you get an agent with multiple vendors behind them, there's some middle-man in that.
Who the hell knows?

I have gotten pulled over for speeding 5-6 times in the past 6 months on the way home from work. I drive home on a road that goes from 45-55 mph and back again several times. I'm never too far over the limit but 10 mph or so.
I am always polite to the cops, I don't bullshit them and I have not gotten a ticket. I didn't even have to pull out my friends business card yet (he's a local detective). -
And Insurance depends on alot of factors. What kind of car you drive, your past driving/accident record. Etc.

And since you are using you vehicle in the commission of a crime, they could confiscate it.
You don't want to make the police think you may be internal affairs, right? 😳

Funnily enough speeding is not technically a crime. There are certain jobs where having a criminal record precludes you from employment. However speeding is classed as a traffic violation and not a crime so people don't lose their careers over it. Well that is in Australia anyway.Escoffier wrote:

Not sure about pulling out the card though.

Do NOT hit the breaks if this happens!! You don't want your taillights giving added incentive to pull you over.
Just let off the gas to slow down. If going super fast you might carefully pull the emergency brake a couple taps to slow without the break-lights coming on. Unless they used radar they need to clock you for a bit. Slow WITHOUT lights is better chance to cruise out of it 😉. -
that's when u gotta get off on the nearest exit lol
