Everyone, I made a huge mistake today and didn't know it. There is this couple in my martial arts school, and the woman is pregnant. So about 2 weeks ago she had come into class and pranked my brother (who is the head instructor at the school) by pretending her water broke because she was supposed to have a baby a week from that day. So today there was an event at my martial arts school and they were there and I had mentioned the prank to them couple, and the couple had really no response and turned around from me. So today my brother and I were driving home from the event an he told me he was glad to see the couple was there today, I asked why, and he told me that their baby had died.... I am guilt ridden and I just feel so bad about it, someone please give me some advice.

Eh, it's not like you knew and were saying it to be a dick. Man up, apologize and you all can move on.

True talk. We've all said something painful From lack of info. And you can't be held accountable if you didn't even know there was info needing to be informed!
I can guarantee I you just quickly say "I had no idea guys, I'm so sorry for my joke and for your loss" or something like that they will forgive you.
But you don't wanna be the dick who draggeeeddddd it out either. Straight and to the point😉 shit happens bro. -
What she said.

Apologize, mail them flowers. That's what the people that hit my dog while driving did. Didn't help much with the sadness, but at leased I know that they care.

Oh my... that's just... depressing... I couldn't handle that guilt it's good that you feel guilty since I know a few people that wouldnt feel any remorse.

You see though Its not that I am afraid of apologizing, it's that I don't want to bring up the loss of their child around them.

You could do it with out mentioning the loss of their child like "Hey I made a stupid mistake about making that joke, I didn't really think about it and didn't know about your personal problems. Could you forgive me?" or something along the lines of that. But that's what I would say.You see though Its not that I am afraid of apologizing, it's that I don't want to bring up the loss of their child around them.

Understandable. But not acceptable.
