FDNY, NOT HEROS.? Fudge that. The lot of them RAN into the burning towers and saved as many people as they possibly could, WHILE losing thier own lives. I call that a hero any day.
Any person whom stares danger and death in the face for the service of another is a hero, plain and simple.

We don't think that way, us fire fighters are very...humble? Yea that sounds like the right word, we just do it because it's what we do, I was born to do this...but I bet those same 343 firefighters that died in those towers would all say, I'm not a hero, just doing my job like all of usFDNY, NOT HEROS.? Fudge that. The lot of them RAN into the burning towers and saved as many people as they possibly could, WHILE losing thier own lives. I call that a hero any day.

FDNY is notorious for their strict criteria for selecting firefighters, because they can be seeing as they have so many applicants. If you are still interested in the fire service don't let it discourage you, apply elsewhere that doesn't have such a strict age criterion, which is pretty much everywhere else.Memphis mafia wrote:
FDNY said I'm too old. They told me to do ems instead.I live for the medical side of firefighting, I use every moment to learn to my full advantage, anything medical related will help u, even if u are not a firefighter..medic...nurse..docter, u need to be able to dress a wound👍 we are not there on time, 100% of the time

We have the best job on the planet. We do the job because we love it. The highs outweigh the lows. I have had to do CPR on 8-10 infants since I began, but fortunately none since my first was born 2 years ago. I've seen injuries I won't describe here and cried over a few I couldn't fix. In spite of that, the smiles I get from handing out junior firefighter badge stickers to the kids at the grocery store help me forget the lows. The thank yous from families and the feeling of putting a good stop on a ripping fire help me forget the lows. The brotherhood helps me forget the lows. Every one of us thinks we are to good to get hurt or killed on the job. Last July we lost one of out best captains on a fire. We flew one of my closest friends on the dept to a burn center who was with the capt. He did his best to get him out but capt died in spite of his best efforts. I still haven't gotten I've that low.

He is our hero. I feel uncomfortable with the term when used for all firefighters because I feel like I just do my job. I appreciate the thought, but it makes me feel unworthy. It applies to Jay though. Thanks for reading, just my 2 cents.

Firefighters, policeman and all others who put their life on the line every day to help and save others get my deepest respect. These are not jobs that I could do and I greatly appreciate them for doing these jobs!! 👍👍👍
