Wow, first time for me. It was a minor quake, 3.7, very near by in Maryland. The entire county woke up at 5:05AM.
Wait... This is the EAST coast, right?

Just for the benefit of other earthquake virgins such as myself: My alarm goes off at 5. I just hit snooze. The house shook for about 2 seconds. I'd say the bed shook, except the wall was shaking with it. Maybe about an inch back and forth about 5 times associated with a low rumble sound. I first thought there was some kind of explosion near by, but it was too quiet outside, no smoke or fire. I thought maybe a plane crashed, or a gas explosion happened...
I opened up twitter and used the nearby feature, and there were about 40 or 50 people talking about it, and posting the USGS link with the details. It was 20KM deep, about a mile from here.
This might be a common thing on the west coast, but it is extremely rare out here. Our buildings aren't built to take it. I'd guess maybe a 5, which is still pretty small, would create a ton of damage around here.

We got an after shock from the California quake about 2 months ago. 500 miles away...

Wow I didn't even feel anything in south nj.

Omg! A 3.7 is a baby quake 😜😜. I sleep thru those!! Rarely notice even if awake. 😋😋

I was right on top of it, in a wood frame house on the 3rd level. You wouldn't sleep through that, unless you could sleep through someone jumping on your bed.Omg! A 3.7 is a baby quake 😜😜. I sleep thru those!! Rarely notice even if awake. 😋😋
Yes, California -bred, born and raised. 😉Yes it was small. But this also wasn't across town. It was under me. They have been blasting with explosives next to where I work. The building rumbles, everyone gets all excited... This was 10 times that. People as close as I am didn't sleep through it.

Up here in Ontario we had a earthquake about a week and a half ago 5.7 I think they said happened 500 km north of us but we really felt it thought something had blown up but didn't hear any sirens so we just went back to our day found out 3 hours later that it was an earthquake
