The turf transparency is configurable in version 2.24 – to change it, go to your device's Settings app, scroll down and select TurfWars and adjust the slider there. Make sure to fully close Turf Wars in your device's task manager before starting Turf Wars, in order for the changes to take effect.

The downtime is for general server upgrades/maintenance, and if all goes well there shouldn't be any noticeable changes (except for our brand new maintenance page that will be at http://turfwarsapp.com during the outage).
The text on the map will be unaffected by this change – that change will happen once version 2.25 is approved by Apple.
