What version of iOS are you using?
Is it a transparency setting?

Change the transparency. Names just get in the way of seeing turfs. I'd rather not see them at all hehe.

One influence turfs. When the game first came out there were actual pins (like on the google maps app) instead of circles. The name "pins" stuck with us old timers.

I'm still futzing with the transparency setting, but it seems to allow turf names to appear at greater zoom levels.
