So you are not really an engineer, but some economy geek?

It's interesting. A lot of continuing training. There is no shortage of new things to learn. Lots of work, but lots of money, too. But for me, I had a lot more fun after I quit the engineering side. I worked as an economic consultant in energy production with a guy I used to work for as an engineer who started his own company. If you haven't started school yet, look for one that is ABET accredited.Aubergine wrote:
How do you like nuclear engineering? -
I'm planning to go to Iowa State University. I don't know what I'll take though. I'm somewhat leaning toward Computer Science and Engineering.

Sounds interesting, but it looks like most go to college and then decide to work in some other stuff...

I say no. There are not a whole lot of decent jobs for college graduates these days. I would say wait until the economy get better bc if you go now you will just be in debt bc of loans. DO go to college. Just wait until the job market opens upIs college even worth it today?
1/3 of my income per month is used to pay off these god damn loan debts.... Its bullshit

I'm planning on going just haven't decided where yet. I've gotten a few emails but im not sure what I want to go to college for yet.

I went to Flinders Uni and got my bachelor of education and bachelor of Arts. I am now a graduate and teaching in a disability unit at a school while completing my master of education (Special Education) externally. Uni was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I pay back $180 a week for my HECS loan that I took out to pay for my uni courses.

I'm going to IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology) in Chicago. Gunna major in Mechanical Engineering and minor in both Aeronautican and Electrical Engineering. My AP classes should pay off. Want to get into
The Weapons development field as a career. I will also be trying to get into the AF ROTC and become a combat pilot. -

WOOO! Winter Park!!!I went to Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. I have an Associates in Recording Arts, which is basically audio engineering.
I didn't go there. I lived there. But I did pick up lots of Rollin's College girls for modelling subjects.
I did the highschool dropout thing.
College didn't happen to me until after the Navy and a bunch of odd jobs. In my 30s.
I must say, it's easier to appreciate higher education as an adult. I was surrounded by kids that did not yet give a shit. Meanwhile I aced it and snagged valedictorian.
Best part: I made enough money working (IT) to basically pay as I went. No loans. Nyaa!
I say do it. Do what you enjoy. It's completely worth it.

Seton hall university, lets go pirates!!! I loved my school, but it's private I believe they brought the tuition down, but when I was there it was 44k a year 😭. I wish I could have used turf wars money.

It all depends on certain factors, the career you choose, the type of area you will be living in/type of area you wanna live in. The college. Research your career and talk to people that do that career to find out. Good luck of ya do go.✯ཥ༑ངਸཧཧབ✯ wrote:

I have a degree in beer drinking from WVU.

I wouldn't say college is necessary for all, but you need advanced training. It is knowledge and skill (with good old fashion hard work) that will get you ahead. For me it was college for my brother trade school. We make the same but I have student loans.

College is great if you know what you want to do and actually need a degree to do it. Went to undergrad at SUNY Buffalo, now pharmD at sjfc. Worth it for me. I have lots of friends who went and acruued a ton of debt and dropped out or dont use their degrees in a min wage job.... You should be honest with your life goals and personal abilities when makin the decision to drop a fortune on schooling

Got my fine arts degree from a school in jersey( in music) but I really haven't played much since I finished. They kinda killed my love of playing and you're right, it is a useless degree lol

Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. Currently wrapping up undergrad. Grad date will be July 2012. Studying Accounting. I am working at a small public accounting firm. My degree will be worth it once I get hired at a big 4 firm. (hope next busy season). Total debt so far is abt 13k. Thank god! And the ga lottery for the hope scholarship! Go to college and be the best you can possibly be. You are setting a base for the rest of your life!! Nice thread. Pretty cool to see where everyone is coming from and where they are going. 👍👍👍

I really want to go to MIT in a degree for engineering..... But that's about 5 years from now. I've been there once and I loved the campous. It's right on the water and you can see part of the Bosten skyline. I also went to an orentation and the staff were great... All throught the orentation they make the whole thing fun.... Did you know that one of the teachers there goes to class in a suit and drinks champagne during. Lol I wish my teacher was like that😃

I'm going to RN school right now going for my second degree. Still got a lot of student loans from my first degree 😞. But if u don't value sleep at all then it's well worth it 👍

When did you graduate CalArts? A good friend in my orchestra graduated from there a few years ago. A bassoonist named Jon Veloz
I graduated from Oberlin Conservatory and did my masters in Rotterdam Conservatory(Clarinet Performance, Bass clarinet performance respectively)
Both places became essential parts of who I am and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
They were totally worth it since I'm employed in an orchestra and am an associate professor in a small conservatory.
What instrument do you play?

If you truely do have mit as a goal, you need to get an insanely high sat (ive seen 1600s get denied in the 2-part sat). More importantly, start extra curriculars now. The one kid ive seen go was a foreign student who did work at ROchester Institute of Technology on lasers in highschool who smashed his SAT and kept an insanely high gI really want to go to MIT in a degree for engineering.....
