Simply put great Britan consists of not only England, but Scotland, Wales and northern Ireland. You can't use the term Britan and England interchangably as they arent the same thing.
Proud scots as you see in this thread will get annoyed at being lumped in as English, because they aren't English, they are Scottish. It's slightly different for the welsh as technically they were conquered, but it's still not polite. Crucially however the Scottish have Never been conquered, not by anyone.
