Mobile wifi thoughts?
Forums › General Discussion › Mobile wifi thoughts?-
My contract is due up in a few days and I've been thrown a bit of a dilemma....
For £6 a month more than my current contract I'd receive unlimited calls, txts and data and also a built in dongle in the iPhone 4GS which would allow me to use the Internet on my laptop at home where I don't currently have broadband. What's anyone's thoughts on mobile dongles and the service provided by T-Mobile as opposed to O2 who I'm currently with?

I have AT&T in the u.s. my 4s is a mobile hot spot I like it

Haha! I wish! Just incase I havent explained properly a dongle is a device you used to have to plug in to get wifi anywhere depending on signal strength but they are now built into your phone and allows you and others to get wifi through your iPhone which sounds pretty nifty to me so wondered if anyone had it?

But...You have too remember, if you use it for laptop etc... You will go over your contract, an iphones browser safari make the site smaller thus making the usage for internet smaller, computer take more usage for ads etc...

Is the data actually unlimited tho, I have seen before where it says unlimited then the small print says otherwise?

Orange got sued last year for advertising unlimited internet without it being unlimited, t-mobile are shite for dongles IMO -
I didn't want to change networks from O2 but t-mobile are ment to share masts with orange to increase reception. It's completely unlimited data. t-mobile introduced it to regain a share of the market from O2... However, with it being a dongle it won't be lightening fast like a landline broadband but that's fine and I'm aware of that, but with me not having the net at home it could be handy. Does anybody own a dongle? (mind the pun)

Well I'm on orange and I have to be honest since the tmobile merger the signal has dropped, it's not as bullet proof as I remember orange being. Quite often I'll have 2 or 3 bars where as before the merger I pretty much had full signal all the time. £6 a month for unlimited mobile Internet is pretty damn good but I would question how much time you'd spend twiddling your thumbs, sadly I think it would be a lot of the time.

What is your original contract price because if you got a good deal £30ish pound I'd go for it but it's £35-40 I wouldn't between £30-35 I don't knowMy contract is due up in a few days and I've been thrown a bit of a dilemma....
For £6 a month more than my current contract.

Well, iPhone tariffs are more a less fixed so no matter how hard you haggle it's no good... The unlimited O2 was £36 with 1gb of data... The T-Mobile is £42 a month with an Internet dongle, unlimited everything Inc data. I'm gonna try this and if the wifi Internet is crap I'll return with 14 days and go back to O2.

Strict nat, That can't be changed. And can't join party's on xbox/ps3. Get a proper mifi dongle (3 network) works better than hotspot on any phone!

In the USA T-Moblie is pretty good in therms of data speed. Not sure about it in other countries. But yes haven't a hotspot in your house or anywhere will come in handy. Just make sure t-Moblie has good coverage where your at.

Right, I'm a little confused by all this hotspot talk. In the UK we can use a device called a dongle which allows you fast Internet access through your mobile network onto the Internet without the use of a landline broadband... which is usually £13.99 to the line provider (BT) then an additional £5-15 through an Internet provider (talk talk etc). I take it a hotspot is when you just use somebody else's Internet broadband wifi... I.e Starbucks etc?
