I was wondering because i was guessing it is illegal now because of all the sopa laws.

Its legal under the DMCA

SOPA didn't pass... If SOPA passed we would have no Facebook, YouTube or pretty much anything with user-contributions.I was wondering because i was guessing it is illegal now because of all the sopa laws.

If it is illegal, nobody cares.

It isnt. Ising exploits through a jaibreak would be against tos. But a jailbroken device in an of itself isnt against the rules. Many of us jailbreak only for convenient shortcuts to settings and not to do anytjing dishonest.Hyena wrote:

It's not illeagal. Just frowned upon, like masterbating on an airplane.

Its actually encouraged to jailbreak. Apple cant sue you for jailbreaking their products under the DMCA, but if you want service from apple, apple will not service a jailbroken device, you have to hide anything that proves its jailbroken or restore it back to normal.

Warning! Purely hypothetical scenarios to follow:
A guy goes out and buys a new car. He gets it home, and decides he doesn't like the colour, so he goes and spends $5500 on a professional respray. He the decides he wants a bigger engine and sport suspension, so he buys and installs the parts.
He notifies the authorities of the structural, visual and performance upgrades, registers the car and begins using it every day.Another guy buys an iPhone. He decides he wants to be able to use music as a ringtone, change fonts etc. etc., so he jailbreaks it. The authorities find out, and he finds fines in his letterbox, and the phone is confiscated.
The problem is, when you sign the apple contract, you are paying for the right to use it, not own it. You're basically paying rent on it. It's stupid.
IMHO, I pay for a phone, I can do whatever the hell I want with it (short of setting off a car bomb, obviously) ... (a real car bomb, that is. TW ones are legal👍)
