The movie is a close representation of Preston, Idaho in the 1980s. The writers grew up there, and the movie was filmed there. It's a Mormon town... Note the complete lack of swearing in the film...

When I do get to drive (18wheeler) I goto some towns where people are stuck in the 70's however nuttin like that movie.. I never thought there was people like that movie in the US
