Well that was too close.

Tornado just passed 1/4 mile north of my house and bounced through my buddy's neighborhood. Great way to be awakened out of bed. Looks like all afternoon is going to be tornado filled too.

Edmond, OK by the way.
-
Do you live in "Tornado Alley"?
I wouldn't. -
Glad I don't live there! Glad you are safe
-
Sirens went off in Stillwater, nothing more fun than having to jump into a closet with a half asleep, screaming three year old!

Showing a new spot near cashion spinning up that could hit you and another south of Langston.

Glad your safe and sound Vinnie!!

Shit really, this is strange and a dont wanna offend anyone coz a do feel for you guys, it must be worrying to think your homes, businesses etc could be swept away and that u need to hide away just to survive however, for me the most exciting it gets round here is a police chopper passing over so I feel like it would be exciting to see and experience a tornado I can't relate to your situations but wow !! How often does this kinda thing happen ?

Multiple times a year but particularly in the spring. @vinnie, yeah after Norman we left radio dialed into mike morgan so that immediately came on, as well as news channel 4. Pretty dumb of them to be reairing storm coverage that they "break into" to give the actual coverage!
-
Stew: during April through June it happens all the time. Damn near daily depending on the storms. And many of the storms can track across the state and drop over 100 tornadoes.
Luckily all the weather radar technology is created here and is the best in the world. We know exactly what minute it will cross each street. It's amazing.
I knew it was 1/2 mile west and went outside and could see the lowering clouds because I knew that it would just miss our neighborhood.

Glad you're okay man, good luck today.

Sounds like you almost dropped a turf!💩💩💩💩

Why do people stay living there? Just curious. Is there some redeeming factor I'm not aware of?
-
Good thing you or other people were fine. 👍

I just couldn't justify owning a place there. I mean even if it's a house can't the tornado just level it?Sammy Guns🔫🌊🗻 wrote:

Oklahoma is not that bad of a place. The stereotype is a bunch of redneck farmers and open Plains. It's actually not. In our urban areas, such as Oklahoma city, edmond, Tulsa, and Norman. We are built up as well as any city in the country. We have top rated neighborhoods such as Nichols hills in the edmond/north okc area, and also gaillardia. Oklahoma also has a couple of the golf digest, top rated courses in America, karsten creek, in stillwater, and southern hills in tulsa, which played host to the us open awhile back. Its a great state. Cheap real estate too.Why do people stay living there? Just curious. Is there some redeeming factor I'm not aware of?

Why do people live anywhere? It's home, for whatever reason. For these guys it is heavy storms and tornadoes. In CA it's earthquakes. Gulf coast gets hurricanes. Northeast gets nothing severe, but we get everything (quakes, tornadoes, blizzards, etc etc). You gotta live somewhere.
-
Vinnie, what area of Edmond are you in?

Earthquakes aren't that bad compared to tornadoes...but then again it's not as bad (in my opinion) comparatively because of frequency you're talking about...now MAJOR earthquakes are worse, tsunamis even worse...I've seen those effects first hand unfortunately. But if horrible tornadoes are KNOWN for a fact to happen that frequent I'd take my chances with earthquakes.Sammy Guns🔫🌊🗻 wrote:

You guys please be careful! I've never been in a tornado. They terrify me. Been in earthquakes though.

My little town of the great DFW got mad scares the other day. Trailers got thrown, auto oil shops were destroyed. The kids were in the hallways. Couldn't even see the roads. They were everywhere. by us and around us. My loved ones and I were blessed though. And I haven't heard of any major injuries or deaths but people's lives were changed.
