That title was supposed to say own/owned...

I never thought to ask this here.... While your at it, anyone with a Mazda 6?
But in answer your question, I've never had the dosh to fill the tank of a jeep so no.... Sorry -
I had a YJ once upon a time. It was great fun to drive, especially in the summer. It is not the most fuel efficient vehicle, it is not very aerodynamic meaning it catches the wind, and it is difficult to properly heat in the winter.
Otherwise: great fun! -
Well right now i have a 2006 civic and I love the gas mileage but I also like taking my lab to the river to swim. Its kind of hard when she gets my car all wet. Its not a dog friendly car. That is why I am looking for a Jeep. They have more room and are fun to take out.

The wrangler is consistently the worst rated car in consumer reports and car and driver.

The Jeep is perfect for a wet and muddy dog. Had a 95 safari edition with inline 6, and a standard trans, I loved taking the top down and doors off, but I sold it an upgraded to a z71 Tahoe with a v8, but the wrangler was definitely a nice vehicle, it is the only Chrysler product that I would own.

Dodge makes Jeep, not Chrysler...

Old FJ40s > jeep.
R.I.P. green 78 land cruiser

I looked at them. My buddy ended up getting one. It is a cool, fun vehicle. Terrible gas mileage. It is also really unfunctional. Ever seen the trunk on it? Honestly, you are buying it because it's cool, because they are a pretty useless vehicle otherwise. Hey - there is nothing wrong with buying something because it's cool!!!! As for my buddy, his sits parked in his driveway. To expensive to joy ride in.

What about a land rover?

A jeep (pre-2007) is one of the most capable off-road vehicles off the line. The newer ones scrapped the 40+ year veteran Inline-6 in favor of a V-6. The I-6 had more torque, but less HP. The new wranglers are an abomination. They come in 2WD. I had a 2002 TJ, and it was a blast to drive. But you can't buy a jeep and NOT customize it, so they get expensive. I did a 3-inch lift and 33" tires with a short-throw shifter and a snorkel. I had to pull out some friends' trucks a few times with an ancient 12k lb winch.
I also had a 1994 Land Rover Discovery (a Defender is my dream car). That thing was indestructible. It was bigger so it couldn't fit in all the places the Wrangler could, but it had a lot of power and would never quit. In my opinion, there are no better off-road vehicles than a YJ or TJ Wrangler and a Land Rover. But I've heard good things about Land Cruisers, too.

Jeeps are not a car for everyone. It's one of those "love it" or "hate it" kind of vehicles. Depends on where you live and what your driving habits are.
I loved the Wrangler, wife hated it. We compromised with a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
If you live in the country, they are fun for back roads and will go almost anywhere in any weather. Nice and stable feeling to them in conditions other cars would feel "out of control".
Not great on gas mileage or the smoothest ride. Long highway trips or lots of inner city travel won't be the most comfortable. But usually that's not why one would be looking at Jeeps 😜

I would never own one again. Had a 2008 and will never get another. It had 8 recalls. Gas mileage sucked and just a ton of headaches. I had to go to mediation to get Chrysler to cover additional costs. Plus they are over priced IMO. So many better options out there.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I am more than likely gonna have to keep my civic since my wife doesnt seem to fond of the idea of me getting a jeep right now. Doesnt mean I wont keep looking and get one in the future though! Haha

@aubergine
Defender 90s, sweet ride. They got discontinued right?
But yeah jeeps and the like not really practical and money pits. Basically like a boat.

J.E.E.P. Just Empty Every Pocket.

Defenders are very very nice. Can be costly

Just make sure your front end is nice an tight, tires are good. You don't want to drive a Jeep with the death wobble...it will scare the 💩outta you!
