anyone ever built a computer?
Forums › General Discussion › anyone ever built a computer?-
soon I'm gonna start building my own computer, what parts should I buy I want it to be quite powerful but I can't spend too much I'm thinking of using an intel i7 or i5 processor but I'm not sure about the other parts what should I use?
-
It really depends on what you want to use it for as to the parts you will need. I much prefer AMD over Intel, but everyone has their own opinion.

CPU: i5 2550k
Mainboard: asus p8z68 v/Gen3
RAM: 8gb with 1600mhz with Low Timings
HDD: 1tb with 64mb cache 7200u/min SATA600 Psu: 600W with cable Management
GPU: gtx580/hd6970 or gtx680/hd7970
And a 80$ ATX CaseIf you want to use a Display with more as 1080p use a ati Card.(7970)
For overclocking you should Buy a extra CPU cooler and a grapiccard with a Coustm cooler Design.

I would go with this, with the exception of the HDD.CPU: i5 2550k

Primary drive: 120Gb SSD,
Secondary drive: 2Tb HDD (Western Digital or Seagate). -
Mind you, in my previous post 👆, the SSD was several hundred $$ when I last checked several months ago. The 2Tb HHD should be around the $150 mark.
I have an intel i5 530 desktop (personalised, custom home build), and an Asus notebook running the intel i7 processor. Both are only 4Gb RAM and 100% HDD's (no SSD's) due to funds when I built them.

looking at the prices I might go with i3 or i5 core instead of i7 and I want at least 4gb ram and at least 500gb hard drive but I'm not sure what primary and secondary drive means

I'd definitely advise against the i3 if you can afford the i5. Go for any HDD for now - it can be upgraded by ghosting all contents onto a new one at a later date if you need it.looking at the prices I might go with i3 or i5 core instead of i7 and I want at least 4gb ram and at least 500gb hard drive but I'm not sure what primary and secondary drive means
Primary drive: this is your C:/ drive, it is what your OS is installed on.
Secondary drive: this is simply like an external HDD or a flash drive etc, only it's an internal HDD. It can be accessed like your primary drive or any other portable media via 'My Computer'.
For more details, pm myself or DirtyCry. I'm going to bed now though 😏

Thats pretty much it but I'd install games and program on the primary anyways . I'd go with either a Western Digital Blacks or SSD they are pricier but good to have for OS and other programs installed on a faster drive..
Those big "green" drives have longer seek time as well so take that into account, they are good for
Files that don't need to be accessed all the time -

I've built two of my computers that I currently have, upgraded parts of the others, my first bit of advice is choose a motherboard first, google everything if you need too (there's no shame in learning!) don't go for high end amazing spec at first, build up as you go, so many of my friends went with the amazing jaw dropping specs, just to check their emails, be realistic, if you want for gaming, google "can I run it" then choose out the higher spec games, it will tell you what you need to be looking at in terms of system upgrades.

Ok well motherboard is where you want to start, when looking up a motherboard look at the processor options, I go for Asus motherboards, they haven't let me down yet and offer a good range, with an AM3 socket and a dual or quad core amd processor the rest well, once you have picked a motherboard check its support site to see what it can work with in terms of other parts :)

I'm probably gonna order some parts today
