I want loot, but heard its unsafe to pass level 50. Any advise?

Get to 5k mob, then level past 50.

I've been over level 50 for a while and I'm still here. Continue mobbing up at your own pace and enjoy the game.

I would advise at least doubling your mob before you even think about clicking on the missions tab again.

It is perfectly safe after level 50 if you don't troll or start fights

Fights as in that somebody wants you to quit the game, tries to force you out.

All they care about is your turf, I had thought ahead before joining the game, If all goes to my plan I'll pass level 50 without any trouble

I wouldn't do it. The moment I went passed level 50 one person went power nuts in my town. He capped everyone's turfs and forced me to restart. I had about 2k mob back then.
