So we all know that turfwars is a social game including many politics. But someone brought up a good point earlier that I would like to ask the community about

Is it ok to post a PRIVATE message on a PUBLIC forum?

Here are two different views on this as I will try to remain nuetral in this forum.

The sender has the right to privacy (this being a private message) and the sender thinks their conversation is kept confidential.

The receiver of the message thinks his rights are being taken away and should seek justice on the forums

I know I am that "someone" lol.

And it can go both ways like I said. One, they meant it for you only but on the other hand they should haven't even behaved like that to you.

It should be judged on a case-by-case basis. If the PM is a threat or suicide message, or if it involves physical harm to the reciever from the sender, or the sender doing harm to themselves, then a call to action can be taken and the PM used as proof. However, other situations will differ and if it's just a noob complaining or of it's a strictly confidential matter, then don't post.

A lot has to do with trust, and posting may violate that trust. The sender should know though that there is a possibility for their post to be made public and therefore must be wary themselves.

If it involves a threat like sending 10 boys to your house to wipe your butt or going to your house to kill you it should be shown

A lot of PMs are sent with the belief that their contents are not going to be exposed to the public (as I said its a trust and an unsigned confidentiality "contract" more or less). If people wanted it to be public, then they would just comment. Certain PMs too should be kept within their specific context of the conversation and picking just one can ruin a player's view of that PMer. It's a touchy area.

There is no reasonable expectation of privacy in a private message. It's just like sending someone an email if there is no professional responsibility to protect the conversation. ie. an attorney.

just like in rl if you dont want someone to hear something you said, dont say it. but if someone shares that information publicly they have shown themselves to be untrustworthy to you & to others. but unlike real life here you get to cap them :)

Of I send you a pm don't post it up anywhere...
If someone is planing to do harm to anyone then okay..
If someone is saying they have proof of a player cheating then post it.

ANYTHING sent over the Internet is public, just because it's sent via PM, doesn't mean it's "private". If it can be screenshot, or copy/pasted... It's fair game and Ura fool if you think someone betrayed you for recycling your words. If you don't want it seen by anyone else, don't say it.

Once that PM hits your inbox it's yours to do as you see fit.

It comes down to relevance if you choose to share it with the community. If its a threat or a simple act of stupidity then share it, for the lulz!

If it is in fact a private message based on private matters then to share it could be a bit lame.

Any "private message" should not be published on a public forum without the permission of the original author of the message.

Wrong, if you don't want it posted then only pm people you trust. Don't say anything that you don't want the world to hear. RL and in game. That's my opinion anyways lol.
