Alright so my dad is going for his doctrine in buisness education. He spent 7 hours typing a research plan that he needs to submit by 8:00(central usa time). He saved it under one file name, then he saved it again under anoer so he'd have two copies of it. He does this with every assignment so nothing different then usual. He then went on firefox to submit his research plan. When he went to submit it, both of his files were gone. He is very experienced with computers and did. Ot misplace them. But both save files are missing. He has restarted his laptop, ut any ideas?
-
May have accidently dragged and dropped in another folder?
-
*another
*did not misplace
*got any ideas? -
It just dissapeared from his laptop. It is not even in his recent documents on word 2011.

I'm thinking a location was not specified so they have both been saved to a temp folder. Have done the same myself. Look up how to recover a doc from a temp folder. Fingers crossed that will help.

You could try going to My Documents, rewind to my computer, type in the name of the document and do a full computer scan for it?
-
Obviously he did a search using asterisks and without the extension in case it got saved as a temp, right? (Ex: file name is Homework.docx, search for *homework*). I know it's obvious, but we sometimes forget the obvious when we're stressed.
-
Yeahh, btw we did the word recovery, nothing. Searched for temp files, nothing. Searched everything else we could find online. Nothing..
-
Turns out we had to click the drop down arrow in like the file open/save area. It said it they were both temp folders, yet they did not turf up in our temp searches. Thanks so much guys for everything!

It showed us all the recent files saved. They wrere both there. But they existed nowhere else on the computer. But we have opened them and resaved them, thanks again!

Tell him to use a flash drive as a third backup next time. Then he would've been much less scared. At only $20 it's a cheap peace of mind :)

Online backup is also a good idea. Then again I'm a paranoid mofo when it comes to important programs and work.
