  This may sound stupid... But it may be a landmass or a large ash buildup on the sun

  The sun is a mass of incadesant gas,
  a gigantic nuclear furnace,
  where hydrogen is built out of helium,
  at a temperature of millions of degrees.
  The sun is so hot that everything on it is a gas.. Where is the ash from then?
  Unless... What it it's not ash, but a crystal of some sort.. With all the atom smashing going on, theres a chance that a new chemical compound was created under the extreme heats and pressures..
  That would be funny as hell.
  The sun is extinguishing due to it turning solid hahahaha
