In need of advice

Hello everybody. I took the SAT this weekend and it got me thinking about what I want to do with my life. I've thought about it a little bit before now but this really got me thinking about college and what I want to study. I have already decided that I want to be an engineer. More specifically, a chemical engineer. I live about an hour away from a great engineering school and being accepted is not an issue, so this seemed like a great choice. However I was talking to my friend who is the bass player in my band and he asked me if I had ever thought about being an audio engineer. To me this would be a dream job because music is my passion. But it is so hard to be a successful guitarist and as an audio engineer I would be working with artists to help them record and such. But since recording software has been made so easy to get a hold of I'm afraid that by the time I got out of college that career would be basically obsolete.

As a fellow TW player i respect your opinions so I wanted to ask of there was anyone with any experience on either of these careers or anyone willing to give me advice. PM me or comment on this thread. It would be much appreciated.

I think you should go with the Chemical Engineering degree but don't give up on the Audio Engineer thing. Just dabble it on the side until you're in a position to commit more in the future.

This is another option I was considering. I know many successful people who play in bands on the weekends not even for the money just because they enjoy it so much. Chemical engineering and audio engineering are two completely different things. I do some audio engineering at my church and I'm only 15. Its mostly about judgement and wht sounds right. Other engineering seems to be based off of facts. I have no clue about chemical engineering but there seem to be not a lot of spots for audio engineering. But anyways do wht you wanna do and good luck!

I guess I should have been more specific but a school near me has a great program that teaches you how to work with soundboards and how to mix and master tracks etc. and now that that can all be done on a computer via programs such as GarageBand and protools I'm afraid it's a risky decision but it's what I love to do. But thank you for your input! Much appreciatedChemical engineering and audio engineering are two completely different things. I do some audio engineering at my church and I'm only 15.
