Really? I guess you have never filled out an insurance packet. There's a reason it ask weight, if the applicant smokes, drinks, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed weekly ,and past medical history. Those all affect your premium. It's common knowledge a smoker pays 2-5 times more than a non-smoker, and a overweight person pays more. Look it up.
The average American pays $185 a month for health insurance(According to the gov). Let's whine about health care cost but paying $150+ a month for cigarettes is fine.
-
Pantera states that that average American pays $185/month for health care insurance. It may be more or less, according to various health-related factors. I assume this $185 is after taxes, that it basically comes straight out of his wallet.
The Swede pays 13.1% in taxes for healthcare. What his health is like is completely irrelevant. If he makes a lot of money, he obviously pays a little more actual money, but it is still 13.1%. if he makes less, becomes unemployed or receives other types of benefits, it is less actual money, but it is still 13.1%. he never has to make the choice between car payments, mortgage, utility bills and health insurance because it is money he doesn't even see. It doesn't matter who his employer is because none of them include health care benefits of any kind since the state takes care of it.
I haven't done the exact math on the numbers above, but tje American either makes an awful lot of money or is getting ripped off in this business on health insurance.
Anyone? -

Don't live in a bubble thinking your way of selecting or receiving insurance is "universal". What about those who are slim and trim non smokers who pay outrageous premiums? That fair? Guess we should cut the cable to protect our health..

Average American pays $185 per month for insurance. That's $2,220.

Who provides your insurance? I've been with numerous insurance providers and I have always had to fill out a questionnaire, except for when I was active duty Army using Tricare.

America sucks. As its economy is becoming more and more independent and boosting further than other countries, it's becoming more greedy, selfish and self-centered. Becoming a first world country makes it more shittier than ever. One example I can give to everyone: The Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol is to help reduce the rate of global warming. The UN gathered all countries and nations together for a big conference made by Japan. The term "Kyoto" comes from the capital of Japan; Tokyo. Japan made a request to all countries to reduce the emission of air pollution from factories and to reduce emission of gases from vehicles. All countries agreed to help in this cause except for ONE country; America. Why did America not help in this cause? It's because they are afraid of it's own economy loss.

Taken from Wiki, " In a CNN poll, 62% of respondents said the Act would "increase the amount of money they personally spend on health care," 56% said the bill "gives the government too much involvement in health care," and only 19% said they and their families would be better off with the legislation"
For the effect on health insurance premiums, the CBO referred[116]:15 to its November 2009 analysis[165] and stated that the effects would "probably be quite similar" to that earlier analysis. That analysis forecasted that by 2016: for the non-group market comprising 17% of the market, premiums per person would increase by 10 to 13%".
Great Law, now add in that it's estimated over 30 million people will not even be insured by 2019. That's the entire population of Canada, 3 times the population of Sweden. So much for "universal" healthcare.
People need to get their priorities in order. What's more important, cigarettes, alcohol, weed, or health insurance.

Lol, Kyoto and Tokyo are two different cities. Kyoto was the capital of Japan from 1180-1868. Tokyo has been the capital since 1868.
And you might want to actually look up the Kyoto protocol, because you'r wrong.

Lol, the Kyoto protocol was held in KYOTO in 1997, it gets it's name because it was HELD in Kyoto. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
And the US is not the only country that did not ratify it. Canada just recently withdrew from it in 2011. Russia, China and India no longer follow it.

My point being that I don't think that 13% is so high compared with the service it provides for everyone.

So basically you are agreeing single and young people are screwed and it only benifits families? Glad I don't live in Sweden, at my income and 13% insurance tax I would be paying over $485 a month, almost $6k a year. I think I'd rather spend MY money the way I want without the governments involvement. It's bad enough I'm paying into programs that won't be around when I'm 65.

Not quite. Your taxlaws as are minus the Swedish tax would mean single households in the US would pay more than a joint household. It doesn't work that way in Sweden, our tax laws don't differentiate between single and joint households. Everyone is a person in their own right.PANTERA. wrote:

Define worst. If you mean highest, then no, that is Denmark. If you mean most complicated, I'd say no, it's pretty straight forward - you pay one tax which is divided between a national tax and a local tax. We don't even have to do our own tax returns in most cases.
The thing is: the healthier and better educated the population is, the more people yoy have in the workforce contributing (through taxes) to the basic needs of everyone. You speak of a pension plan you think won't be there when you retire. Part of my taxes go to the very people that will ensure I do get my pension when I retire. Because they are healthy, because they are educated, and because they are employable. That gives my a higher standard of living and greater personal freedom than the extra $40 in my wallet per month.
I'm not saying one system is better than the other. Both offer pros and cons. I personally prefer the Swedish system for many more reasons than the health care system. -
I thought Swedish taxes were the highest.
Guess I was wrong ;D -
