Unemployment Benefits

What is a valid reason to get unemployment? Considering the only way you receive it is for getting fired/laid off. It seems like a double edged sword to me. Maybe the rule should only be for those laid off rather than fired.

bloody hell, I thought the UK had some crazy rules!
benefit and claimant cheats make me sick.
Some guy at my wife's place of work was off long term sick, around 4 months with stress on full pay, but that didn't stop him having a good time and posting the pictures of himself pissed at his wedding reception on fb.
Stressed? my arse! -
No Addi, I ain't kidding. Part of the problem in Texas a few years ago was actually that the TWC (unemployment agency) had a large surplus. They refunded a bunch to small biz but they also approved a ton of claims that I've been told aren't getting approved today. That of course is your government at work, folks. And Texas is one of the better ones for small (and large) biz.

@Adults Thought this was obvious tounge in cheek. Even the most pinko liberal wouldn't make that statement.

The one and only time I filed for unemployment I was laid off. The only justifiable reason in my opinion. However get this, the company that had to pay for it was NOT the company that laid me off. It was the previous company that I worked for. I didn't think that was fair.

There's plenty of those that get fired and are denied unemployment. The process is expensive on both parties end so unless your a bigger firm whose pockets run deep it's harder to fight and not worth the time/expense and the same for the employee if they happen to lose. I think the biggest room for improvement for everyone is to educate themselves on your rights ahead of time but remember this is the most important rule .. CYA!! Cover yo @$$ !!! That means document everything that you think could help you should you ever be involved in a suit and document it well!! It's always a he said she said so whoever has the most documentation proving their side generally wins. **I said generally**

Dude, I've got a sales employee who couldn't sell crack to a Crack addict and I can't just fire her.
It's taking me close to a year to do everything I need with HR, (performance appraisals , warning letters, evaluations) to fire her so she won't be able to sue us for wrongful termination.
Sad part is she can't take a hint and resign.....just keeps trying and failing and failing and failingAccording to my government if I hire moron, it's my fault and I have to keep them.
My parent company has a cage full of em. -
When it comes to things such as business, at best I could be considered a young investor. So I don't really have any advice for this, though I do think that if your worker was being unreasonable with his absences and you notified him multiple times, you shouldn't be liable to have to pay part of his unemployment payment. Just curious, what business do you own?

The same thing happened to me. I quit my job for a new job. The new company laid me off after 5 weeks of employment. The unemployment claim went against the company that I quit. The system is setup so that the employee almost always wins. As an employer, you are screwed.
