Sleep study

So here I am at the lung specialist getting a sleep study done... Turns out I have pretty severe sleep apnea .
They just came In and put me on a CPAP... I gotta tell ya . It's pretty damn claustrophobic...anyone else on one? How long does it take to get used to? -
I work for the primary distributor of supplies for sleep labs in the USA. While I'm not an expert, there are a lot of things that can make it more comfortable. Our website for patient supplies is www.patientsleepsupplies.com. Most people say that cpap really changes their life for the better, but it takes a bit to get used to. Hope it works out for you.

You'll never get used to it but you will find that cos you're sleeping properly for once you wont actually mind

CPAP didn't work for me... They actually removed a piece of my tongue because it was choking me in my sleep.. And the fact that I have narcolepsy doesn't help lol. Hope it works for you. In the 2 weeks I wore one I slept a total of 6 hours with it on.. Tool it off and went out like a baby. Best of luck brotha

I used to work for a respiratory therapy company, there are many different options for your mask that will make it more comfortable for you. Don't worry, almost everyone gets freaked out at first, but many people do get used to it, its all about find the right fit.

I've been on one since 1999. It took a few months to get used to it, but you should. The only thing I couldn't get used to was the chin strap. I don't use it. It works really well. Just give it a chance. Any questions just PM me in game.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me so they chopped a piece of tongue out :/ been playing trumpet for 15 years at the time so my tongue was overly muscled lol. Didn't think that was possible
-
I also have severe apnea. I've been wearing a mask for about 5 months now. Here's the deal. Having a mask on your face will wake you up at night. But you will stop snoring and choking. And that makes it worth it. You did the right thing.

Not being rude, but does it have anything to do with weight?
Seriously I'm completely ignorant on this subject but since you bring it up... Just wondered. -

There are several different types and sizes if mask. They can cover both your mouth and nose or just your nose itself. In fact there's one piece that I know of that isn't a mask at all. It's just a small cushion that rests on your upper lip.

That's a fair question... I've had significant weight gain over the last 3 years... I used to be an armature body builder, not so much anymore. Not being rude, but does it have anything to do with weight?

Recent studies are suggesting that apnea can actually CAUSE weight gain due to reduced energy.
The mask was a bit freaky, had some claustrophobic issues with it, but I feel much more rested after 5 hours of sleep with the CPAP than I have with 8 hours sleep without it.
I can definitely see myself getting back in shape if this is the result of CPAP -

. Many of these posts are right. I used to work with a medical supply company, setting up CPAP's and fitting masks. Call the company who delivered yours and see if you can try others. If you open your mouth when you sleep you may need a full face mask or a chin strap. Or there are some rather small ones that only cover your nose. There are several different types and sizes if mask. Unfortunately I need a full mask.. I can pretend I'm a fighter pilot, maybe that will help😜

I don't know what exactly this thread is about, so I won't try to give advice. I will do what I'm good at though: wishing luck.
So, good luck mate. Hope this sleeping (whilst flying?😉) works for you! -
From what I've been told they take awhile to get used to but the benefits are well worth it. Sleep apnea is a far more serious condition than most people may think and can lead to many more conditions, some being severe. The CPAP, when properly fitted, is a great device. Some can be more noisy than others but give it some time. You'll get used I it and you'll be sleeping like a Babyyy. We just did a study on this area in nursing school

Yeah.... I'm getting fitted for one right now😜
I have the added benefit that my wife (Fatal Beauty) is a RN and can monitor me 😜 -

That's a bug plus! But if the full mask doesn't do it for you, you should be able to try a canula style with a chinstrap.Yeah.... I'm getting fitted for one right now😜

Interesting that you mention weight as a factor. They used to feel that weight was a cause for sleep apnea. Now they feel that apnea causes weight gain. Makes sense.. Apnea causes all kinds of health issues. Decreased energy and fatigue being a couple of issues..the decrease in energy and extreme fatigues causes depression and lack of motivation to exercise...thus causing weight gain.

I tried a c-pap and couldn't stand it. I had two surgeries to open my airways. It helped for a while, but the apnea came back.
Now I'm sleeping well with a bi-pap. It let's up on the pressure a little when I exhale.
It did take getting used to, but now I can't sleep without it.
I am overweight. As to cause or effect, I can't say.Good luck with it, and let us know how it goes.

Having not read the thread all I have to say after studying you sleep that you do have a tendency to snore and Fatal needs to not hog the bed so much. Ignore the heavy breathing in the bushes.
