Bagged a dear couple months back, gutted it, cut it up all the good stuff.
Time to cook it well it was not so good very gamey I couldn't eat it but I can't throw meat away just seems unfair to the animal.
Called a friend for any cooking tips, he told me to marinate in salt water for 24 hrs to make it more tender and get rid of the game flavor and man did it work turned out great just finished it.
Hope others use this, also post any other tips you have here I love to learn new ways to cook.

The best part of hunting was my first time out its been a long family tradition to take a drink of the heart blood while it's still warm from my first kill and did the same with my two boys my daughter won't hunt but try using your game meat in a lasagna or spaghetti it's so good

I actually prefer the taste of deer meat. It doesn't taste "gamey" to me, beef tastes bland. But if you don't like it you can always use some BBQ sauce.

Best way to get rid of the "gamey" taste is to make sure the meat is processed properly. I've done it the right and wrong way and man does it make a difference.

This is big factor that many people overlook. When dressing a deer it's important to keep the meat clean, from everything from any intestinal or stomach fluids, fecal matter, and scent glands. This can taint the meat, giving it an unpleasant taste. It's also very important to let the meat chill properly before butchering, at minimum I let the deer hang 24 hours. Hanging it for longer is even better as it lets the meat "age", thus making it more tender. Of course the outside temperature is a big factor in this, if it gets above 50 degrees don't let the meat outside.
During the butchering process its also important to remove all fat and any fibrous tissue.

Another big factor in the taste of the meat is what the deer eats itself. Most of the beef we eat is from grain feed cows, this gives it a very mild flavor. Wild animals on the other hand eat a wide variety of things, which effects the flavor of the meat. One tip that I've learn is to check the fat in the deer, the fat is usually a white or yellow color. White fat is a sign of a better fed animal, whereas the the yellow fat tends to means the a lesser nutritional diet for the animal.
Another big factor can be the kill itself, if the deer is allowed to run after being shot this can effect the taste of the meat as well. When they run latic acid build up their muscles, this can also greatly effect the taste of the meat.
