  They said that probably wouldn't work in the Gulf since the Oil isn't far underneath the sea floor. It'd just expose the whole thing and the Gulf would literally turn into the Black Sea.

  From my understandings the crack isn't on the surface of the sea bed, it's a few km under ground. That plus the depth of the ocean is making it hard.
  Technically it isn't BP's fault as it was an American supplied part that didn't work in the first place which would of contained the pipe. BP will probably take them to court o claim any fines the USA issue them.
