Oversharing...wtf

Why don't some people have tact, boundaries or filters? Not in the way that mama tek doesn't have a filter, but in the way that makes you go, "why the hell are you telling me this??"
Just this week, I've had complete strangers talk to me (in detail) about their
1 colonoscopy
2 prostate exam
3 psoriasis
4 extremely heavy menstrual flow and the corrective surgery
5 irritable bowel syndrome
6 the rash "on [their] tush" they get every time they're on antibiotics
7 recurring urinary tract infectionI mean, okay, if we're having a conversation about it & these things come up, but could you not tell me all of this the very first time we meet & especially while I'm touching your naked body? Ew.
Does anyone else have stories about people oversharing? Or perhaps you'd like to overshare with the class (messrine- I think this is your cue).

no I didn't know that. And haha that is crazy. Batel was a massage therapist for a few years too. She always harps on me for how tense my muscles are. I can't imagine someone telling her thatTurf Warrior👊🔨💀 wrote:

I'm way too scared to do that one, but sometimes I'll put on Pandora & leave it on the bathroom counter & if a song I don't like comes on, I'll dry off my hand, stick it out & change the song.BellaItaliana wrote:

back when I ran a vegan cafe, ppl used to come in and tell us all about their bodily functions. ten years ago we were making gluten free and other options for those twats, and customers would think it appropriate to get into detail.
that being said, you are working out of a medical facility of sorts. even weirder when it comes up in retail food.

Regarding the OP, seriously you don't understand this? You said it's the first time for these people. They are feeling vulnerable and this is their way of gaining some control over a situation in which they are completely NOT in control and help them feel more comfortable. Plus oncecthat physical zone of comfort is broken, emotional barriers go with it. I figured masseuses shoul have at least one psychology course dealing with peoples' reactions to this sort of thing before certification or whatever. Considering that first and foremost masseuses work with people, one would think it would be important to understand them? I get this all the time as a hit man; people spill all their secrets at the end. But I just listen compassionately before I pop a couple into their forehead.

@Moridin:
It was their first time with me, not their first massage. I've actually taken 4 or 5 psychology courses, it was my major before I decided to go into massage.
I am very understanding with people when in that environment and some of those things borderline make sense to tell your massage therapist, but some are a little excessive & overly personal. Besides, this thread was mostly just for fun anyway and to get interesting stories out of everyone else. -
Good... Awkward!
