Some of the tacky tourist places are cool, though. I mean, what would a SF trip be w/o a cable car ride, Chinatown walk, or fresh crab at Fisherman's Wharf? Some tourist spots are popular for a reason. With that said, though, whenever I go somewhere, I like to see the real city/country/whatever as best I can, too. You'd wanna take poor Mason to the TL, wouldn't you? 😜

Ha... Nah, no rough stuff his first time. Ok, I'll agree on parts. Yes china town but be sure to walk and only go in one 'cheap crap store', definetly turn left at Columbus and have espresso at a little Italy tratoria, head towards 39 for crab and sourdough. There, tourist part over.

If you go to Union Sq, after yiu get tired head North for drinks at Clift. If you can break the piggy bank, dinner at RN74 will blow you away.

There are 15 of us and most are leaving a day early and coming back a day later. I'm going to try to see as much as I can. Thank you everyone for your info. I have never been to California and so I want to make the most out of this trip. Especially if most of it is getting paid for by someone other than me.

With a group and some time, I'd highly suggest mission district. Cheap eats and fun times (like authentic central american empanadas) on the way back stop at Zeitgist fir great beers on tap, killer burgers and local color.

I'll pm you with my list of faves. Too much to list here.
