I know belial. The thing is that goes for every group, be it religion, politics etc. the key is to have empathy for your fellow man while debating. Or just debate in a grammatically correct way like saying "some or most Christians believe such and such."When we are speaking of Christians addi it's usually the majority which happens to be the religious right. I for one know you arent in that group :). The religious right tends to be judgmental which makes us very defensive.

That's of course assuming that those chapters in the bible were really inspired text. It's entirely possible that the ancients used god as an excuse for murder just like they do in modern day. Course that doesn't speak well for Moses and Joshua now does it?

I've been watching this thread with interest. But it now seems to have become more confrontational, and less rational.
I'd like to think most Christians are fairly open to a rational debate on these things (the ones I know in RL are).
It seems to boil down to this in regard to our existence, either you
a) believe the scriptures to be 'true' (to a variable extent) i.e. creation by a higher being.
b) believe more recent observations to be 'true' (i.e. the fossil record, vestigial organs etc).
Whichever you believe to be true, the fact is, we just do not know with any certainty. I'm comfortable in the knowledge that we just don't 'know' where we came from, or where the matter and energy we encounter came from.
At the end of the day, we all share our small planet, until we die. That is all we can be sure of ( and taxes)

Still waiting for the answer. Did the ancient hebrew leaders create supposed declarations from god to meet their on purposes or was god indeed a murderer?
