  Thank you. Just because in people's minds they're washed up they seem to think they have no relevance. If it weren't for Metallica, there would be no slipknot. And slipknot, iconic, really? If you need a gimmick like masks and generally insane behavior, theres a lack of talent.

  I would call the sex pistols iconic. An icon is person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something. Sex pistols definitely represent punk.

  There's a lot of definitions of rock. The Beatles were considered rock and roll in their day.

  So we have Pearl Jam and Slipknot as the only iconic bands ever.

  Dang, that's crazy since Slipknot has listed many of these same bands in the rock and roll hall of fame as their main influences(including Metallica).

  Lots of bands sold out. It doesn't mean they have no talent. You can be a douche and still be a great musician. I agree that the guys in Metallica suck but there is no denying that they have some really good stuff. Ride the lightning is one of my favorite albums of all time
