Wait. Has anyone taken the age of this poster? I mean its gonna be a wayyyy different story for a 16 year old vs. A 20 year old. As for myself, these things happen. When I was young my dad cheated on my mom, and they worked it out and are still together. As far as I can tell they are still happy, and although it sounds weird, they are closer now than when I was a kid. It's not a marriage death certificate.

I agree 110%. 👍👍👍 -
It's a fucked thing to have happen but it's life
-
Oh and for the record I found out my dad was cheating first, and I kept my mouth shut. Regardless of the fact they are my parents, it not my business. I sound cold I know, but telling my mom was my dad's job. It should have come from him, and I made the right call. You arent lying if you keep knowledge to yourself.
-
Keeping the knowledge to yourself is enabling. And as bad as a lie in my book.....in this circumstance anyway

👆This 110% of the way👆Talk to her and tell her you know and how you feel. Then stay out of it.
It will plague your life if you don't tell your mother.
At least it may push her into making a choice. To either come clean or end the affair.
If you tell your dad then both him and your mum could resent you for it (this isn't a sure thing, but possible!)
And blackmail?! NO lol this would cause so many more problems!

I find it more likely that the dad will resent him for not telling him.

Ummm, I see a way to get a lot of respect points from the don here... Am I the only one?
-
There is no rught and wrong way to deal with these things though. People react differently to these things.
You know your parents, we don't.
Whatever happens though, try your best not to take sides. They are your parents but an unfortunate part of life is... these things happen.
Good luck.

My heart felt sick reading this. I'm so sorry. I can't imagine the resentment you battle over all of this.My sister and I went through this as kids. Not only was she cheating with several guys, but she used us as cover and bribed us to keep our mouths shut. One day we finally had enough and told our Dad. He moved out and within a week there was a man sitting at my fathers table being introduced as "our new dad"......even though my father continued to raise us. For years she constantly blamed us for breaking up the family. Her actions throughout my childhood has scarred me for life, and I continue to deal with it everyday. To this day I still feel guilty for not telling him sooner.
Tell your father.....he has a right to know. If you don't, you will regret it later in life.
-
Anyone who has been cheated on seems to be the last to know. If you are 100% CERTAIN that ur mom cheated then ur dad has a right to know. If there is any doubt at all about the affair, however, be VERY careful, a severe mess can be created by false accusations.
Good luck! -
DON'T tell your dad! Talk to your mum.

Confront her respectively about it.
-
And don't tell ur dad right away unless ur mom won't admit to it or is still not changing.

Oh advice to you from a son of a divorced family it's best that you I think it's best that you bring the both of them together and tell them what's on your mind I learned and found out the hard way don't speak up you watch the family fall apart in front of you
-

Yeah but the messeger always gets shot! The mother should take the mature ground on this one. It shouldn't be up to the children to save a relationship.
I'd rather be shot then live in a cloud of lies. You are right about it shouldn't be up to the children, but sadly in some cases the parents maturity level is below that of their children.
Sometimes a relationship needs to die for those affected to be happy.
-
Talk to your mom. Tell her to tell your dad. Or stop affair. If it don't happen tell dad.

Ask her if the other dude has money or not. I don't like my step dad n don't like my real dad either sk I wouldn't care. Wouldnt like it but wouldn't care to get involved
-
Tell your mom that she needs to tell your dad or you are going to. Your dad needs to know, one way or the other and it would be best if it comes from her. Leaving him in the dark opens him up to various STDs some of which are fatal.
-
Get over her. Go out with someone else.
