Could the game be stagnating?
Forums › General Discussion › Could the game be stagnating?-
This post comes as a reaction to recent events, which includes what seems like many players resetting, and is an invite for debate.
Why reset?
As a new player, you come into the game, you explore it, grow some turf. You maybe make a few friends, and the honeymoon period is great. Before long it is inevitable you tread on the toes of a player you are never going to beat, no matter how much mobbing up a 3k player WILL NOT beat a 15-20k player who has allies of equal or stronger power. So, because you are relatively new to the game, you don't see the value of continuing, you download the latest update of Angry Birds and Turf Wars is left on the 4th scroll page of your ipod, gathering cyber-dust in the form of outdated upgrades.
We need to counter this problem. I am lucky enough to have formed good connections, but players like The Inspector (who was a regular poster) did not. The gap between new players and old ones is too far, and if you dont post in here, how is anyone supposed to get to know you. Discuss :) -
I have tread on the toes of bigger players. Meh strike that, I've dropped my Ax on them. Always for a friend. And i took some beatings for it. But I've never once thought about resetting. It's basically a pointless gesture, save 2 reasons...
1. Your offensive, and are forced to change.
2. You over spent on attack/def points in the beginning.
MObbing up dosent always work, vet vs noob, but there are other ways to deal with things -
You should speak to and make friends with your local players as much as anyone else.. You'd be surprised of the friends you could make.

The game isn't becoming stale. Players always leave in waves.

👍 Some respect and getting to know folks goes a long ways.

I think the whole helping people goes a long way also.
Not pounding noobs with so called offensive names. Try and guide these people in the right direction. If that doesn't work then it's fair game I guess.
Too much of 'shoot first ask questions later' judging by a lot of what I've read in the forum these last couple of weeks.
Yes people should read the sticky threads and read before posting but again... Some people take the whole 'pound a noob' thing too seriously.
Had I not had the heads up from the bro, I'd have made those errors and probably would have decided not to play!

I have been here since the 16th Oct 2011 (See stats) and one of the reasons I tried as much as I have is because everyone doubted a new player could match an older player (I like a challenge) 👍
I have been capped regularly and still am (you know who you are), I have had 20 turf capped from me in one hit (at the time it was around 50% of my turf) and have been in quite a few small scale battles.
I have spent £44 or so buying turf limit and that's it so far and use all the free son points I can get.
My main advice would be to punch like mad(I still am) and buy turf limit (2/4 a day).
With a bit of patience I believe it will be possible to catch up with the older players(I have met some very useful friends to help me incase I get in any bother along the way).I don't expect to be the next DAS,H@VOC,Randombloke,etc but I reckon it's possible to get to a point where you are big enough to be significant and people will leave you alone.

Remember the game is weighted towards defence so if you stayed 10-15k behind the big players eventually they wouldn't be able to beat you or they would need very expensive upkeep to do so👍
I'll see where I am after 6 months and then 9 and 12 and report back to give the noobs hope 😱

I do less forum and more 'game' as the silly drama is boring and tiresome. I do read the longer more interesting threads but post less than last month. On the big to small gap, yes it can be overwhelming and frustrating - but so is life.... Just have to be smart, stay out of trouble, find your own corners of the world to grow in and make friends as you will need them....

Keep in mind we've had thousands join in the last few months, even a few hundred are just a drop in the bucket percentage-wise. It's an app game, many just play for a few weeks and get bored, others take it on as a mission. Stagnating is a very strong word for a game that still seems to be growing in player additions.
-
an interesting observation - it seems there are about 350 players who are actively punching temp codes. I know someone who created an account, didn't do anything with it and then reopened the app a month later -- 354 invites waiting

There was a point I raised concerns over rapid decline but I don't think that's an issue anymore. As belial said, it happens in stages, vets will retire and a new generation will take over.
I do however still have concerns, for the game mechanics. What may look like balance to most is not balanced at all. In fact, in certain aspects of the game the mechanics make no sense anymore. I just hope future changes are made with thought and testing. Adding a fix to solve a problem created by a fix to solve another problem is going down the route of killing the game. And mark my words, it will happen.

My one concern from what I've read is that the codes that have expired can not be punched but may have been punched by others, so there is not numerical chance of catching up if the top players have 30k-45k and there are only 25-30k genuine codes to punch, unless Im missing something...

I guess im not missing something..... But hey it still great fun
