So I was just cruising along looking for something good. Pass by a van gong the other way and my automatic license plate reader pops up and gives me the high alert tone meaning stolen vehicle. I make a quick uturn and get behind the van as it pulls in a driveway. Jump out of my car, gun drawn and start giving verbal commands. Driver gets out then takes off running. Foot pursuit is on. Jump a wall chasing him, run around another building then I catch him. Take him to the ground and get him cuffed. Come to find out he is a parolee at large driving a stolen cat with evidence of identity theft and counterfeiting in the stolen car. Off to jail he goes then it's back to work again tonight for me. Hopefully another good night ahead.

Wow. That license plate reader sounds like it's from story about 1942 Germany. Glad to see we've gotten rid of pesky things like probable cause.

You're right. We could have check points and people needing to carry proper ID all the time so we can catch rule breakers. Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe we start random phone taps too in case people are talking about doing illegal things.

Last time i checked a plate coming back as stolen was more than enough PC to stop a car.

Deleted the post drizzy is referring to. But I said the ALPR is an extra set of eyes for us. Nothing different than us running the plate manually on the incar computer except that it can get plates quicker and without me having to look down at the computer to type the plate in and see the results.

There's not a thing wrong with plate readers.... Especially if they are used to help recover your car from a damned thief!

As for the off topic stuff I think its great that a law officer has this ability. Stolen cars should get stopped by the police. All technology avaliable to make it more likely for an officer to recover stolen property should be praised. Dont like it, don't steal or use stolen s**t.
