Badfish, by definition, haole means foreigner, or visitor. But it is more commonly used as a derogatory term for whites. For the most part, the locals are very welcoming. Very few are haters.
The problem stems from the influx of the white man coming in, buying everything up, driving up prices and then turning it into a playground for the rich. locals are losing more and more of their culture and there land.
Many newcomers don't understand the island lifestyle and laid back attitude. They want to turn this place into another NYC or LA.
When I got here 20 years ago, there was no Kmart, walmart, home depot...there was two mcdonalds and BKs, a pizza hut and a jack in the box.
Everything else was local.
Now it looks like Strip Mall, USA here.

And I'm pretty sure there's some more dangerous places than pheonix like the New York area or in Southern California.
I think it's disgusting that crime is being blamed on immigrants. Yes there may be some that are commuting seines BUT most are here fir a new and better life style.
Now on the other hand when someone brought up that if the law was revised and made more suitable and less of a racial profiling case, I would be all for it but it was put together sloppy. I does go against what our country stands for but I understand (sort of) where these officials are coming from.

Even my old neighborhood's murder rate is more than twice as high as Phoenix's. People think a high minority population means high crime. Smh.

I'm down for immigration as long as it's legal. My family worked long and hard to get our lives straight from nothing. Did all the work to become citizens. Just saying.. I'm a 1st gen immigrant. it's interesting talking about immigration law and ancestors who came from wherever when really you guys are all talking about Mexico. I know I've had cooks go home and get arrested on subway platforms because they have no ID. being Mexican, they look suspicious. rich white kids come out of culinary, lazy, self entitled, and generally useless when it comes to professional kitchens. I've worked with 16 year old kids from Oaxaca that can out cook every culinary school grad I've hired. (and I won't hire kids out of school for anything other than dish or prep, unless they went to CIA, they can spend time on garde manger.)

so many people I've known are paying taxes. just under an ID of someone who is likely dead. they have to change social security #s every couple years. but a white man from Bulgaria or Ireland is going to get a much better shake than someone coming from Mexico. because our country is even more racist to the very people we choose to exploit when it comes to the INS.
