Any iguana owners?
Forums › General Discussion › Any iguana owners?-
I've had my iguana for about 7 months and he just recently turned black and grey. I changed the uv bulb and heat bulb and the started misting the tank a lot more and nothing has helped. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with him?

U should consult a vet

Yes he is still alive and seems fairly healthy except for his color. And unfortunately all the vets in my area specialize in cats and dogs. I asked the people that work at the pet shop I got him at and they don't know either.

This sounds stupid but did you google it?

Haha yeah I did. According to the interwebs it could be stress, temperature, humidity, uvb levels, or any other disease or parasite. But I've made sure the temp and humidity is right. His diet is good. He has a brand new uv bulb. There hasn't been any changes in his environment to stress him out and, other than being slightly lethargic, he doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. No ticks or mites. I'm stumpedThis sounds stupid but did you google it?

Ah, I'm sorry about your iguana. I don't know anything about him but could it be normal.. or am I thinking about a chameleon.

Well from what I've read some color change is normal depending on temperature, light, age, and wether it's breeding season or not. But they usually get an orange tint during breeding season. And the adjustments I made to temperature and light have made no difference. And at his age he should still be bright green with darker stripes. But for some reason he's black with grey stripes, so I'm afraid he might be sick 😔Ah, I'm sorry about your iguana. How big is the tank your keeping it in, that might be the problem.

48 gallons. He's about 1 1/2 ft long. I was preparing to build a custom tank for him but then this happened so I spent all the money I was gonna use for that and bought new lights and lamps and an automatic mist machineHow big is the tank your keeping it in, that might be the problem.

Check out your nearest university. My sister had an iguana about 15 years ago. When he got sick the vets recommended to go to one. Some of them have specialist I guess

I looked around on yahoo answers I think your cage size might be too small this is an answer I found that might be useful to you.
"75 Gallons would do well for a young iguana. Assuming that it is a green iguana, 75 gallons would be way too small.
Unfortunately there are quite a few Green Iguana keepers that house their animals in too small of an enclosure. In reality, a large walk-in enclosure would be the best for green iguanas.
If, however, your getting a smaller species of iguana, such as a desert iguana (Dipsosaurus dorsalis), 75 gallons would be amazing!
If this is your first reptile, I would always recommend staying as far away from green iguanas as you can! They can be aggressive, high maintenance, require massive enclosures, and get just as massive themselves. Start off with something like a bearded dragon, leopard gecko, or smaller species of iguana like I listed before, then move up to the green iguanas if you feel your ready."

@Fruzzley-I see. It seems like that could be the problem then. I shall resume the tank building as soon as possible. Thank you for your help.

No problem, good luck to you and your iguana!
