I want you're thought on the subject I am deaf myself but SouthernPride has told me something I don't believe

I'm all for equal rights, but everything would have to be made to be operated with no sound. It would be dangerous without being able to hear also. It is just a little unrealistic I think. Not trying to be a downer or anything. I bet there are things not combat based you could be doing for the millitary. I'm not too experienced with that though. You never know hope it works out 👍

Consider the USO or veteran affairs.

I'm not sure how a deaf person could pass basic training. There certainly couldn't be a deaf person in battle due to the simple fact that they could not receive orders or determine the area of fire.

I've been to many deaf events since I took ASL during my first two years in college, and truth be told I've been very impressed as to how many members of the deaf community have skills that many of us hearing would have the hardest of time to master. Lip reading would most likely be the most common one, though I also had my professors husband who was blind and deaf but was able to read sign language by merely having his hand hold into yours while signing. Heck, there's even a deaf person in the UFC that I've met at a dead expo, The Hammer I believe I what they called him.

But sticking to the topic, I would say YES they should be allowed to any fields of the military. And I think many of us have become very stereotypic when we think about the military. Not all of them are in the front lines, shooting, flying planes, or at sea. There are cooks, engineers, mechanics, corpsmans, heck there are even bankers, teachers, and business positions in the military. I believe in equality. And the military is balanced by each of these different positions to stay strong. And I believe many of them do not require a soldier to be able of hearing.

While I agree with Pistol Pete there in ideology I feel I should point out that while there are non combatant positions within the military, all of those people are expected to be combat ready at a moments notice. Just because someone is a cook or something doesn't mean they don't need to know how to fight should the need arise.

But there is no distinction between recruits for combat or non combat positions. All members of the armed forces go through combat training during basic training. Every service member is expected to be able to man a position while under attack if needed. We cannot have a military that creates separate classes of soldiers. -
Sorry for the lack of quote above. Must have deleted the code while trying to shorten it.
