Protection money question

I have a turf that's paying protection money to an 84 inf turf owned by capo of Birmingham... If I upgrade this turf to 84 inf will I still have to pay protection because the capo has greater overall influence? Or will it stop paying protection when both the turf influences are equal? Thanks!
