How close do you have to be to capture turf?

The closest person to me is over 100 miles away. I attacked till I got the message this base has been destroyed or something to that effect, but instead of giving me a capture option, but the attak button turns to can't attack.

It's not Don protection. Our numbers all inline with turf capture guidelines.

Only thing I can think is the distance.

Does the turf you want to capture have to be in the green zone?

A turf that is in my green area and had all the other checklist boxes ticked said I was too far away but know it's too small for me to attack
