How can one tell if they are getting close to becoming the new capo? Also is it not good to have turff over lapping to much?

You can ave turf overlapping it makes no difference

and unfortunatly there is not a way unless you count how much influance the current capo has, and how much you has
then a lol math to work out the difference

Did you read the help guide at all? Capo's don't pay protection or police.

I wonder if overlapping turf takes away from your total controlled area. Do two overlapping turfs control 2.2m, or is it less?

It'll be easier to tell how far behind in INF you are once, and if, "sorted turf list's" are introduced.
